Oreo Ice Cream is so delicious and it’s actually surprisingly simple to make!

The first thing that you want to do is crush your Oreos. To do that you’ll want to put them in a large plastic bag and smash them with a rolling pin. Set them aside.

Pour the heavy whipping cream into the bowl of a stand mixer and use the whisk attachment to whip the cream at medium speed until it is thick and creamy.

Add the vanilla extract and whip at high speed. While still mixing, slowly pour in the sweetened condensed milk until it’s gone. Continue to beat the mixture until the mixture begins to form stiff peaks, but be careful not to overmix.

Use a rubber spatula to gently fold the crushed Oreos into the cream mixture.

Pour the mixture into a large loaf pan and spread with the rubber scraper to smooth. Cover the container with plastic wrap and put it in the freezer to harden for 6-8 hours until completely solid.

Tips and tricks for Oreo Ice Cream

  1. You might be tempted to crush the Oreos in a food processor or a blender, but I would suggest that you do it by hand. The power of a machine is going to grind up the Oreos too fine, and you’ll want some of those yummy bigger chunks of Oreos in your ice cream.
  2. If you don’t have a stand mixer, you can also use an electric hand mixer to whip your heavy whipping cream. Just use the whisk attachment and whip it on medium speed for a few minutes until it’s to the right consistency.
  3. If you don’t have a loaf pan, any container will do! The loaf pan is just the perfect size for freezing your ice cream. You can use any container that you have in your kitchen that you are able to seal with plastic and that can be put in the freezer safely.

How should I store any extra Oreo Ice Cream?

You can store your homemade Oreo Ice Cream right in the loaf pan that you make it in!

If you have any extra ice cream, just keep it in the same container and make sure that it is covered well when you put it back in the freezer. If you have a container that seals completely, you could also transfer the ice cream to that container to keep it fresh and free of ice crystals.

What happens if I overmix my heavy whipping cream?

When you whip heavy whipping cream into stiff peaks, it becomes a lovely creamy thick mixture that is great for so many recipes, including this one.

Unfortunately, you can overmix your cream! If you forget about your cream or let it mix too long, you may notice that it begins to separate. If this happens, you may be able to rescue it by adding a tablespoon or so more of cream and whipping again until creamy.

If it’s way overmixed, you’ve unfortunately started the process of turning your cream into butter. Might as well make some yummy homemade butter with it!

Can I use any flavor of Oreos?

Can you believe how many flavors of Oreos there are now? I feel like any flavor that I can think of I can find in the Oreo section.

This recipe is really flexible, so you can add in whatever flavor of Oreos that you would like. Adding birthday cake Oreos and a dash of sprinkles would be so delicious! I’m also a big mint fan so maybe I’ll have to try adding mint Oreos and make some mint chocolate ice cream. Yum!

You could even use other favorite mix-ins in this recipe other than Oreos. It’s a great base recipe to add nuts, marshmallows, fudge, cookie dough, or any of your favorite sweet treats.

Why don’t I need an ice cream machine to make this recipe?

You might be wondering if this recipe can really be great even though it doesn’t need an ice cream machine. My answer is a big huge yes!

The reason that most recipes use an ice cream machine is that most ice creams need to be whipped and churned as the ice cream freezes. It helps the ice cream be creamy and perfect.

This recipe, though, uses whipped heavy whipping cream. Whipping the cream yourself will help a lot with this process. The real difference, though, is the sweetened condensed milk. This thick and sweet ingredient will add the perfect amount of indulgence that you need in your ice cream without any churning necessary!
