A Perfect Pairing: Summer and Ice Cream
Ah, summer and ice cream – a match made in heaven, wouldn’t you agree? In the spirit of this classic combination, every summer we make it our mission to explore and blog about new ice cream spots in Connecticut. Trust me, it’s a tough job, but someone has to do it 😉.
This year, when we shared our current list of favorite spots on Facebook and asked for recommendations, we were overwhelmed with dozens of suggestions! It was a truly difficult decision to choose where to go first (yes, sarcasm intended)!
Considering the unusual circumstances of the summer of 2020 and the need for ample outdoor space, we settled on Tall Man’s Ice Cream in Cromwell. This hidden gem not only offers mouthwatering homemade ice cream but also boasts a spacious outdoor eating area that allows for safe social distancing.
A Haven for Ice Cream Lovers
Conveniently located on Cromwell’s Main Street, Tall Man’s Ice Cream is just a short drive from the Rocky Hill town line. It’s the perfect stopover before or after visiting some of our other beloved Connecticut destinations.
If you’re in the mood for outdoor fun, make sure to check out nearby attractions such as Watrous Park, Dinosaur State Park, or The First Tee at TPC River Highlands. But on this particular day, our sole mission was to escape the confines of our homes and indulge in sweet treats at Tall Man’s Ice Cream.
Upon arrival, we noticed that the action was centered around an outdoor window on the side of the building. Whether there is indoor seating available under normal circumstances remains uncertain, but for now, all the action is outdoors.
Just take a look at their extensive menu! And remember, they only accept cash (consider yourself warned!).
Delightful Treats and Joyful Moments
With our ice cream in hand, we made our way to the spacious outdoor seating area behind the building. The flavors we chose were absolutely delightful, satisfying our cravings to perfection. Afterward, we let the kids loose in the expansive yard while we savored the moment of togetherness.
The seating area even features a corn hole set on the far side, ensuring there’s never a dull moment. Scoops, smiles, and simple family moments – sometimes that’s all you need. This summer, we are particularly grateful for these cherished memories.

Tall Man’s Ice Cream is more than just a place to satisfy your sweet tooth. Here are some important details you should know:
- Cash is the only accepted form of payment.
- Kiddie size is available for soft serve flavors only.
- Non-dairy options are also offered. Check their Facebook page for updates on flavors!
- Ample parking is available.
- Please note that we did not come across a public restroom accessible from the outside, though there may be one inside.
- The premises are stroller-friendly.
