If you’re searching for a charming ice cream spot in Fort Collins, look no further than Old Town Churn. Owned by the same company as the renowned Little Man Ice Cream, this delightful addition to the city has quickly become a local favorite. With its outdoor seating, prime downtown location, and a range of delectable flavors, Old Town Churn is a must-visit destination for any ice cream lover.
A Whimsical Setting for Sweet Treats
Nestled within a larger complex featuring eateries and places to grab a drink, Old Town Churn stands out with its adorable stand and inviting atmosphere. Before indulging in a scoop, I highly recommend stopping by Scrumpy’s across the street for a refreshing cider. With its picturesque surroundings, Old Town Churn offers the perfect setting to savor some delicious ice cream.
A Welcome Upgrade
Having been disappointed by my previous ice cream experiences in Fort Collins, I was eager to try something new, especially given my fondness for Little Man in Denver. My visit to Old Town Churn did not disappoint. The friendly staff, along with the charming location, made for a delightful experience. Although I encountered a few ice chunks in some flavors (which seemed odd for a July visit), I sincerely hope they have resolved this issue. Nevertheless, the overall experience was excellent, and Old Town Churn showcased their creativity with an array of fun flavors, including vegan options.
Flavor Highlights
During my visit, I had the pleasure of trying a couple of their standout flavors. Here’s what I sampled:
All Nighter
This delectable combination features a vanilla espresso base with a rich chocolate fudge swirl. The bold espresso flavor takes center stage, accompanied by a subtle hint of vanilla. The well-integrated fudge adds a mouthwatering touch. Despite encountering a lone ice crystal, this flavor has the perfect balance and ranks as one of my favorites. You won’t be disappointed!
Matcha Honey
For matcha enthusiasts, Old Town Churn offers a treat that combines a strong matcha flavor with a touch of sweetness from honey. The flavors are wonderfully balanced, although I did come across a few ice crystals. Despite this minor setback, the Matcha Honey flavor is a definite winner and highly recommended.
Charming Presentation and Affordable Prices
Old Town Churn knows how to present their ice cream with style. Served in generously portioned bowls, you’ll appreciate the side-by-side flavors, allowing you to enjoy multiple tastes in one sitting. The pricing is affordable, with a medium-sized serving costing only $4.37. It’s worth noting that the portion sizes here felt slightly smaller compared to Little Man, but that could have been due to my own hunger. I must commend Old Town Churn for their commitment to sustainability by using real bowls and spoons.
A Sweet Variety
Old Town Churn strikes a perfect balance between classic and innovative flavors, although most of their offerings lean towards the sweeter side. As someone who appreciates bolder flavors, I was thrilled to find a flavorful and not overly subtle ice cream option in Fort Collins. With reasonable prices and a year-round operation (seasonal hours may apply), it’s an ice cream shop that won’t disappoint.
So, have you visited Old Town Churn? If not, make sure to add it to your must-try list. You won’t regret indulging in their delightful creations!
