We’re spoiled for choice right now at Walt Disney World when it comes to desserts.
From the iconic Mickey Premium Bar to the refreshing Dole Whip, there’s a treat for everybody at Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme parks.
Guests have been eagerly awaiting the debut of Salt & Straw at Disney Springs, ever since it was announced back in June 2021.
Salt & Straw is a family-run ice cream company known for its unique ice cream flavors and strange combinations. We’re talking flavors like Olive and Goat Cheese, Black Truffle, and Mushroom Ice Cream – and even Creepy Crawly Critters for Halloween!
Disneyland Resort in Anaheim already has a popular Salt & Straw location in Downtown Disney that opened in 2018. Disney World visitors have been keeping a keen eye on the construction walls at Disney Springs for this new Disney location, and now, we finally have an opening date!
Salt & Straw will be opening on the West Side of Disney Springs on April 20! Guests at Walt Disney World do not have to wait long to get their hands on some interesting scoops of ice cream!
And that’s not the best part. Salt & Straw plans to offer the first 100 customers a free scoop of ice cream on opening day. So don’t hesitate on April 20 to get a Disney World bus, boat, or Minnie van over to Disney Springs from the Disney Parks or your Disney Resort Hotel to get a free scoop.
Salt & Straw was created by cousins Kim and Tyler Malek. The dessert business makes handmade ice cream using organic, local, and sustainable ingredients. The Disney Springs Salt & Straw location will reportedly serve flavors such as Honey Lavender and Chocolate Gooey Brownie, as well as flavors specific to Florida, like The Salty Donut Guava & Cheese, and Panther Coffee Chocolate Tres Leches.
If you are vegan or have a dairy allergy, they also have dairy-free flavors available, so ice cream for everyone!
On Wednesday, April 13, construction walls around the new ice cream shop were removed to reveal the storefront near AMC Theaters on the West Side. The Walt Disney World website describes the exciting new ice cream destination below:
Discover taste-provoking ice cream at this family-run scoop shop! Stop by for their ever-evolving menu, created in collaboration with chefs, farmers, food movements, social causes and more.
Interestingly, it was originally Ample Hills Creamery that was supposed to be at this Disney Springs location, but the COVID-19 pandemic had other plans. Ample Hills Creamery could be found at Disney’s BoardWalk, but the ice cream shop never reopened once Walt Disney World closed in 2020 due to COVID. Once the building reopened, it was called BoardWalk Ice Cream.
We can’t wait to go see what amazing flavors and combinations the new ice cream destination at Disney Springs will offer – but can it beat the delicious sundaes of Ghiradelli Soda Fountain?
