Ice Cream Maker With No Rocksalt
While we buy ice cream from the store, it’s so much more fun to make your ice cream from scratch. Plus, when you make it from scratch you can control the ingredients you add which is vital for anyone with food intolerances or allergies.
I use a Midas ice cream maker, which is neat because it doesn’t use electricity or rock salt. If you want homemade ice cream with no rocksalt, ice cream makers like this one make it easier.
You may also want to check out this frozen dessert maker. It makes a wide range of frozen treats.
You put the unit in the freezer (or outside in the snow like I did). You add the ingredients depending on what recipe you’re following. Then, you put it back in the freezer or snow for 15 minutes.
You stir and repeat until it is as thick as you want. The longer you freeze it, the more solid it will become.
Of course, if you don’t have a Midas ice cream maker, you can do the same thing in a large bowl with a lid or even a soup pot. The important thing is that you stir it regularly so it’s not hard as a rock. You may have to leave it in a little bit longer for it to firm up.
Or, try this ice cream maker. It works wonderfully with no rocksalt.
How does an ice cream maker with no rocksalt work?
An ice cream.maker works by simply freezing the ingredients. By mixing them regularly, you prevent them from freezing solid, which will leave you with ice cream rather than a frozen solid block of milk and cream.
A homemade ice cream machine makes the process much simpler than trying to make it by hand or by using an ice cream churner like my parents did.
Homemade ice cream ingredients
This is what you need to make to make the recipe I use with an ice-cream maker with no rocksalt.
- 2 cups of whole milk
- 2 cups of heavy cream
- 1 cup of sugar
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 2 tsp vanilla
- 2 cups mashed fresh strawberries
Of course, if you prefer, you can make this ice cream in a different flavor. Leave out the strawberries and make vanilla ice cream. Or, you can stir in some cocoa for chocolate ice cream.
Try raspberry, blueberry, peach, or whatever other flavors you think would be good. I have used this same recipe to make chocolate chip ice cream by stirring in a handful of chocolate chips. Get creative and enjoy!

What kind of rock salt for an ice cream maker?
This recipe doesn’t need any rock salt at all. But, you can use this recipe in another type of ice cream maker. If you’re wondering where to buy rock salt for your ice cream maker, you will need this type of rock salt.
