If you’ve ever been to Disney World or Disneyland, you probably had one of their famous pineapple Dole Whips.

It’s easily one of the most iconic Disney snacks, because it’s the perfect, most refreshing treat on a hot day.

Maybe you’ve snagged one at Aloha Isle in Adventureland in the Magic Kingdom, at Pineapple Lanai at Disney’s Polynesian Resort, or at Tamu Tamu Refreshments in Animal Kingdom.

In any case, the odds are high that you can’t forget this special pineapple treat!

But if you’re like me, and you find yourself missing the Disney magic of the theme parks when you’re not on vacation, then you definitely need this easy Dole Whip recipe that you can make at home!

We’re using the secret ingredient that Walt Disney World uses for their pineapple whip, because not only is it way easier that way, but it also provides that authentic pineapple flavor and texture that we all know and love.

Pineapple Dole Whip with an Ice Cream Maker

There are many Disney copycat recipes available for Dole Whips, but they primarily require frozen pineapple and pineapple juice.

While I love making pineapple sorbet with fresh pineapple chunks using a food processor, the thing about a Dole Whip is that it’s completely smooth, which is quite difficult to achieve if you’re using fresh or frozen pineapple.

Not only that, but a Dole Whip should be a creamy consistency, like a soft serve-perfect for a hot summer day.

I find this texture is easiest to master with an ice cream maker! In my home kitchen, I use this Kitchenaid ice cream maker, because it attaches to the Kitchenaid stand mixer I already have.

If you have a Kitchenaid stand mixer, it is a great option. If you don’t, you can certainly get a stand-alone ice cream machine for minimal investment (this Cuisinart model is a popular one).

The key is to ensure the drum of your ice cream machine freezes for a good long while.

I leave mine in the freezer for at least 24 hours prior to using it, but you might be able to get away with 12 hours, depending on your model.

Obviously, if you have a soft serve machine, you can use that, but I prefer the versatility of an ice cream maker.

Making the Real Dole Whip at Home

The other key to making authentic Dole Whips at home, in your own kitchen, is to use the actual pineapple Dole Whip soft serve mix!

Yes, that’s right, the Dole food company makes a dry mix that you simply combine with liquid, then freeze! It has the tropical flavor of the real thing, but with minimal effort.

You can buy it here on Amazon. Don’t be put off by the size-this is a large package that will make several batches for you over the course of the next year.

And once you taste how good these pineapple Dole Whips are, you’ll be glad you have more mix in the pantry.

How to Make Authentic Disney Pineapple Dole Whips with Just Two Ingredients

Let me show you just how easy it is to “whip up” these Dole Whips-just like what you’d get in the Disney parks!

Simple Ingredients You’ll Need:

  • Dole Pineapple Soft Serve Mix (Get it Here)
  • Water
  • Milk (optional)

How to Make It:

Mix. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the soft serve mix and some water. If you want your Dole Whips to be a bit creamier, you can use half water and half milk, but that’s totally optional (Dole Whips at Disney are dairy-free).

Churn. With the dasher in place, turn on your ice cream maker. Slowly pour the pineapple soft serve mixture into the freeze bowl or drum of your ice cream machine.

It won’t look like much, but keep in mind that it will increase in volume as it freezes.

Let the mixture churn and freeze until it’s the consistency of soft serve ice cream (this takes about 15-20 minutes in my machine).

Scoop or Pipe. You can definitely scoop this soft serve directly into dishes and serve. But if you want it to look like it does at Disney World, transfer some of the mixture to a disposable piping bag fitted with a large, closed-star tip, and pipe it into a bowl or glass.

Piping it with a pastry bag gives it that iconic Dole Whip swirl!

Then, enjoy your favorite Adventureland treat at home, and think happy thoughts about the Happiest Place on Earth!

Recommended Equipment For This Copycat Dole Whip Recipe

These are a few items that are helpful when making Dole Whips at home:

Notes and Adaptations:

  • You can make this with just water, or a combination of water and milk. If you want to increase the creaminess without adding dairy, I’d recommend trying canned coconut cream.
  • Want to make a Dole Whip float? Fill a glass halfway with pineapple juice, then pipe the Dole Whip soft serve into the glass. Talk about delightful!
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container. I use this insulated ice cream container. If you freeze it, you’ll need to let it sit out at room temperature for about 10-15 minutes to soften to soft serve consistency.
