Break Out The Top Hats, Ladies And Gents
It’s always exciting to add a touch of sophistication to our lives, isn’t it? Picture this – donning our top hats, extending our pinkies, and savoring a delectable spoonful of Strawberry Cheesecake. Okay, maybe we don’t go to such lengths, but let’s indulge in the idea for a moment.
And in these refined moments, we forgo the ordinary term “ice cream”. Instead, we elevate our language along with our demeanor and fashion sense. “Jeeves!” we would exclaim, “Kindly bring me the spumone with the ganache on top, s’il vous plait.”
Are you feeling a little lost? Not to worry. Here are a few fancy words that we absolutely adore when describing our favorite dessert, because sometimes “ice cream” just doesn’t do it justice.
Gelato
You probably remember hearing this word a lot when your college roommate returned from their semester abroad in Italy. “I had gelato every day!” they would excitedly proclaim. Gelato is similar to ice cream but has its own distinct charm.
Patbingsu
Remember this name, for it is sure to impress. Patbingsu is a delightful Korean delicacy, resembling sweet ice cream and topped with fruits and other treats. The perfect word to drop the next time your friends invite you over for kimchi.
Affogato
Prepare to become a huge fan of this one: coffee lovingly poured over your favorite ice cream flavor. We’ve tried it with our Coffee Caramel Fudge Non-Dairy flavor and even added a touch of coffee liqueur for an adult version. But even in its simplest form, the affogato is a dessert masterpiece.
Granita
You’ve probably come across a few granita recipes on your social media feeds, especially during the summertime. Guess what? It’s essentially ice cream without the cream, featuring plenty of ice and sweetness.
Kulfi
Often referred to as “Indian ice cream,” kulfi has one of the fanciest names for ice cream. Say it out loud – Kulfi. Kulfi. It never gets old.
Sorbet
You’ve probably come across this word before, most likely on the menu at your local Scoop Shop. You can thank us later for introducing you to these sweet and refreshing flavors.
Spumone
A spumone, or spumoni in plural, is an Italian ice cream cake with three layers of pure awesomeness. We made one once, and it was truly a dessert masterpiece.
Semifreddo
Semifreddo is a bit undecided about its identity – is it ice cream, mousse, or cake? We lean toward it being mostly ice cream, but we could be a little biased. How about booking yourself a trip to Italy to taste it and let us know what you think?
Sherbet
You might be thinking, “Oh, sherbet is the same as sorbet.” Well, you’re mistaken. While sorbet is typically dairy-free, sherbet often contains dairy, giving it a creamier texture. Now you know the difference!
Tortoni
You might have initially misread that as “tortellini,” but no worries, we’re all about clarification. Tortoni is a version of ice cream that includes heavy cream, minced almonds, and cherries. It’s like a fancier rendition of Cherry Garcia.
Next time you’re indulging in a frozen treat, why not try out one of these fancy names for ice cream? It adds a touch of elegance to your dessert experience. And if you’re looking for more ice cream varieties, head over to Ice Cream for an extensive collection of flavors and options.
