I can still remember the first time I had fried ice cream. It was at a Mexican restaurant I’m sure you’ve heard of, Chi Chi’s, and I was in heaven.
Fried ice cream sort of boggles my mind. But it is one of the latest trends right now and who doesn’t want a golden ball of fried ice cream anyway.
Shortly thereafter, I got a job at that restaurant and would eat fried ice cream every chance I got.
And then came along Air Frying. This easy recipe is so much cleaner and less mess than deep frying in hot oil.
Since you don’t use any oil in an air fryer, Air Fryer Ice Cream is good for you…right?
Who wouldn’t love a scoop of vanilla ice cream, coated in flour, egg white, and cinnamon sugar cereal, then “fried”? Fried ice cream is heavenly!
It was hard for me to believe that you could put ice cream in the air fryer or deep fryer without it melting. And tastes so much better than ice cream sandwiches. But here we are!
What Does Fried Ice Cream Taste Like
It tastes heavenly, to say the least. You will be in love at first bite.
We are using cinnamon toast cereal in order to give it that extra cinnamony flavor. Top it with some chocolate syrup, whipped cream, and a cherry on top, and all I can say is Oh Emm Gee!
If you’ve ever had Chi Chi’s Mexican Fried Ice Cream, the end result tastes exactly like it without the deep frying!
At first glance, no one even knows it’s a fried ice cream delicious dessert. They will think it’s just a round dessert.

Supplied Needed for Deep Fried Ice Cream
- Ninja Foodi Air Fryer – I started with a Kmart air fryer and moved up. The Ninja Foodi is one of the most used appliances in our home. It’s a permanent fixture on our counter as we use it daily.
- Ice Cream Scoops – We use a traditional ice cream scoop in order to get perfectly round ice cream balls.
What Can I Use Instead of Cinnamon Toast Crunch Cereal
There are many items you can use in place of the cinnamon toast crunch cereal for a different crunchy coating.
I have used crushed corn flakes, although you won’t get the cinnamony flavor with this unless you combine cornflake crumbs with a teaspoon of cinnamon.
Or crushed butter cookies, tortilla chips, flour tortillas, arrowroot cookies, a slice of bread, crushed rice Krispies, crescent dough, or you can even mix in some crushed nuts.
I have also seen a crumb mixture with any of the above and crushed nuts for that added extra crunchy nut flavor.

How do You Fry Ice Cream Without It Melting
First things is to scoop out about 1 cup of ice cream per ball.
Mold the scoop of ice cream into a ball and place in a muffin tin or on parchment paper on a baking sheet. Place in freezer for 1 hour.
Remove from the freezer and coat each of the balls of ice cream in the flour. Return to the freezer for 1 hour before dipping into the wet ingredients.
Crush cereal into crumbs.
Whisk the egg mixture white until foamy in a shallow bowl.
Remove and roll each ice cream ball in the egg whites, then coat with the cereal.
Take the coated ice cream balls and place them back into the freezer for 4 hours or overnight.
Remove and set the ice cream balls on an aluminum foil tray in the air fryer basket.
Cook on 350 degrees F for 2 minutes or until golden brown.
Place a ball of ice cream on a serving platter and top with chocolate sauce, whipped cream, and a cherry.
Eat with toppings immediately.
A word of warning though, if it’s a very warm day, you will want to remove these from the freezer a couple at a time.
An ice-cream ball hack of mine is to take individual scoops of ice cream and roll ice cream balls like a snowball.
They come out perfect every time.
Plan ahead since these do take a little bit of prep work.
Can I Make These Ahead of Time
You can make these up to the point of right before you air fry them. Wrap them in plastic wrap, place in a freezer bag, and place them in the freezer until you are ready to air fry them.
You can deep freeze these for up to 6 months.
Can I Deep Fry Them
You sure can if you don’t have an air fryer. Just follow the steps up until you air fry them.
Take a large dutch oven or deep-fat fryer and pour vegetable oil in it about half way up. Heat oil until 375 degrees F over medium heat.
There has to be enough in it to cover the breaded ice cream.
The cooking process will be about the same timing as the air fryer. Watch it closely so it doesn’t start melting.
When finished, remove with a slotted spoon and place on a paper towel.
